Hi! My name is Jane Patterson and I am currently working for the Abbotsford School District in British Columbia. I am officially qualified to teach junior/intermediate grades, with a background in Physical and Health Education. I am also now equipped with a second teachable in Social Sciences. I am excited to be working in the profession that I have been dreaming about for years. I have a strong love for teaching and being physically active, so I hope that I can bring that passion into my classroom.

My educational path...
Highview Public School (Pembroke, ON)
Fellowes High School (Pembroke, ON)
University of Toronto - Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (Toronto, ON)
University of Ottawa - Bachelor of Education (Ottawa, ON)
Queen's University - Senior Social Sciences AQ (Kingston, ON)
Where I am now...
I am enterring my third year of teaching in the Abbotsford School District. During my first year I had a wonderful time teaching Physical Education as well as supporting English Language Learners at Dave Kandal Elementary School. Last year I had the pleasure of being a TOC and got to experience new learning environments, including my time at Abbotsford Middle School where I taught Grade 7 English, Social Studies, French and Careers. I enjoyed learning everyday from the various staff and students I worked with, and am continuing to take every opportunity to better my skills and teaching practices since I am still new to the scene.
How I got here...
I grew up in a small town about two hours north west of Ottawa, Ontario, where I attended public elementary and high school. I have a strong love for sport and physical activity, so I was a frequent participant on school sports teams. I believe that the lessons I learned through sport allowed me to thrive in my academics. I spent my teenage years lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons, which propelled my love for teaching.
I completed my Bachelor of Physical and Health Education at the University of Toronto, where I was exposed to concepts such as physical literacy, sport psychology, research and teaching practices. I loved my school years in Toronto, and spent my summers at home in the Ottawa Valley or travelling. I then went on to complete my Bachelor of Education at the University of Ottawa, where I gained 2 years of practicum experience in grades 6 and 7. I learned so much as a student teacher and am so thankful to have had a range of experiences within those 2 years that really primed me for this first year of teaching. Some of my future goals include travelling and teaching in Canada, as well as globally. I plan to take what I have learned from my time in Ontario and apply it to future experiences, wherever they may be. |
